Stefan: Congratulations on a terrific development - well done!
I am using GPSDash and two other GPS applications (TomTom and Anquet Maps) on my PPC with Holux BT GPS unit. The only way I have found to use more than one application at the same time is to use GPSGate (see www.franson.com) which sets up a virtual port on the PPC, allowing a number of applications to use the GPS data at the same time. So for instance I could record a tracklog in GPSDash while navigating in my car using TomTom.
I am still working on demo version of GPSGate, and will need to buy soon :-) Does anyone else have experience of this software? Are there other approaches to this?
Thanks

Are there any free or lower-cost options to GPSGate?

I also use GPSGate. Works great.
One interesting feature is to make it simulate the GPS, when testing indoor even without a GPS connected.
This way one can work with GPSdash, and see all the dials in function and so on.
I have only added a simpel route as a line, but it works great in testing the moving map, and especially the changing from one map to the next.

I use Serilot (COM Splitter). Works also great.

I am using GPSDash2, TomTom 5, VisualGPS on my T-Mobile MDA II with Fortuna clip-on Bluetooth-GPS unit.
I have best experience with this equipment.

Well, I ended up buying the Express version, rather than the Standard full version. This has more limited functionality, but is enough for me. Only allows two GPS applications at any one time.
It costs $10 (plus VAT if you live in the EU). So not very expensive, compared with $30 for the Standard version.

Some body was able to run Tomtom with GPSGate (I don't remember where I have read that, and which version of Tomtom was used).
This mean that Tomtom is hable to use a virtual port.
Try also to test the vitual port with GPSdash2 (I know this is working) to be sure your virtual port is working.

It's because Tomtom can't wake up a virtual port. You need to run another app first to wake up the port. There's more info here (relevant to Mio a701, but other devices will be similar):

read the whole thread before deciding how to do it. The script way is cleaner as it closes down the first app, but the GPS Proxy way is probably easier. You can just close it manually afterwards.

I have not tried these (so I take no responsibility if they destroy your device!), but there are two freeware options I could find. If you google, you can find discussion threads at AximSite and Brighthand that describe their use.

some additionnal informations on shared ports:
my physical GPS port is com6
the corresponding virtual port is com8
I am not using Tomtom but Georando and GPSdash2
if I first connect Georando on port com8 and then GPSdash2 on port com8 => don't work on Georando (could not open serial port)
if I first connect Georando on port com6 and then GPSdash2 on port com8 => working
if I first connect GPSdash2 on port com8 and then Georando on port com8 => working
if I first connect GPSdash2 on port com8 and then Georando on port com6 => working
conclusion:
1-Georando can share a virtual only if this port is in use
2-Georando can use the physical port at the same time that GPSdash2 use the corresponding virtual port
It is possible tht the behavior of Tomtom is similar to Georando
