Development Diary
All new features, code improvements and bugfixes of new releases will be listed in this section. A list of all "known-bugs" is also maintained here.
GPSDash Version 1.4 (03/10/16)
- New: Scroll with Buttons (1.41m) - You now have an alternative method for moving around on a map manually. Beside selecting the position with the stylus, you can now also move the position marker with the steering button of your PocketPC.
- New: Seamless Help Integration (1.41m) - The manual is now properly integrated in the PocketPC "Help System". This means that the GPSDash manual is available as help topic in the overall PocketPC help and will be displayed automatically if you choose "Help" entry from the PocketPC main menu while GPSDash has the focus.
- New: UTM-Support - GPSDash now features full support for the widespread Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system. You may now choose freely between one of the three supported notations of WGS84 coordinates and UTM. As most of the mapping material out there is based on the UTM projection, this should be a valuable addition.
- New: Bigger Position-Marker - As the position-marker was quite small and sometimes hard to see, this is a first try to resolve this issues. This new outline-effect is optional and can be controllen over the "Marker Color" entry in the map-view context-menu.
- New: Advanced File-Selector - This new selector removes some restrictions of the CE standard file-selector. You may now also select maps or logs from your SD-Card or other external storage-cards freely.
ATTENTION: Whereas this new method for selecting files offers more flexibility, it lacks some of the convenience of the old one. To find your files with the advanced file-selector, you must know where they reside (e.g. The worldmap is stored in \My Documents\GPSDash\). Anyways, you may choose freely betweeen the old CE standard and the new advanced file-selector over the "Tools"-menu.
- New: Support of Geoid Separation - As some of the better GPS-Receivers (e.g. Emtac CruxII) are capable of reporting an approximation of the difference between the altitude in the geoid model and the real world, it was time to use this information in GPSDash. If you own such a device, this new version of GPSDash should report the correct altitude for your position without the need to enter an correction offset manually.
- Bug Fix: Connect Issue with Bluetooth Receivers - As I got some complaints about GPSDash not working with various Bluetooth receivers in conjunction with most of the new WM2003 based PocketPCs, I had to spent several days to sort out this problem. My detailed testing revealed, that the problem is not the code of GPSDash, but a(nother) nasty bug in the implementation of the virtual COM-port of the new Bluetooth Manager (WM2003, PPC2002 iPAQ5450 ROMv1.19). However, I managed to find a workaround and GPSDash should work with all receivers that are reachable over a serial connection again.
- Bug Fix: Marker Color - The color of the position marker was not persistent. This issue should be solved now.
- Various smaller bugfixes...
GPSDash Version 1.3 (03/04/23)
- New: Advanced Bearing Mark in Compass - As the bearing mark in 1.2 was obviously to small and hard to see, this new version features a bigger, color coded bearing pointer which should make this function more usable. The color of the bearing pointer is colored green if you are heading directly to the selected waypoint. It turns to red if you are going to miss the target.
- New: Support for Color Coded Track Overlays - This new feature of GPSDash allows you to color code GPS related information into your track. At the moment, only the reception situation of your receiver can be selected to be color-coded. Support to encode height, speed or similar will follow soon.
The color coding for the reception situation works as follows:
If your receiver uses all the satellites that are in it's current view, the track is colored solid green. The color changes from green to yellow to red the less satellites are in current use. This feature is also available for loading a track from a previously stored log-file. Enable it by selecting "Marker Color -> Reception" from the MapView context menu. It's great for visualizing the performance of your receiver ;)
- Enhancement: - Better visibility of the direction indicator of the MapView bearing tools.
- Bug Fix: Missing Waypoints - This release fixes the problem of waypoints not showing up if you are zoomed into a map.
- Bug Fix: Altimeter Correction Value Popup - The Altimeter correction value dialog does not popup anymore everytime you open the Altimeter context menu.
- Bug Fix: Goto Waypoint also in non-tracking mode - The "Goto Waypoint" function now also works correctly if "Track Position" is unselected.
- List of known bugs:
- Incompatibility with the new (buggy) iPAQ Bluetooth Manager resulting in malfunction when trying to connect to Bluetooth GPS-Receivers over the virtual COM-Port. Affected devices: Nearly every PPC running WM2003 + iPAQ5450 PPC2002 ROM Version 1.19
- The status of the Marker Color Reception switch is not persistent.
