GPSdash2 Map-View
Measuring Distances and AreasGPSdash includes many features for which other vendors do charge a much higher price. One of these features is the distance and area measuring tool for calibrated maps. To get a distance for a user-defined path, the following steps have to to be taken:
If you follow these steps, GPSdash2 displays the total length of the path in a popup window. To make GPSdash2 calculate an area for you, the defined path must contain at least 3 nodes and must end in the starting node. In this case GPSdash2 displays the length of the path and the amount of the outlined area. Map OrganizationIn GPSdash2, maps are organized in directories. The default map directory on the PocketPC platform is "\My Documents\GPSdash2\Maps". To add new maps, just copy the map-images (*.gif, *.png, *.jpg, *.bmp) plus possibly available calibration information (*.mcx, *.gmi) into this directory and they will show up in the map-select dialog of GPSdash2. If no calibration information is available yet, you have to define at least two reference points per map to make. To change the default map directory or to add a new one, use the "Add Map Dir." command from the Map-View's context menu. Of course a map directory may also be on a storage card or similar. Map SourcesGPSdash2 is delivered with no maps beside a world map but the software is especially designed to make it easy for you to import and use nearly any map you can think of - also satellite photos. Some good sources for importable maps are the following:
